The End of Teaching 2025

May 2, 2025 - Scott Hewitt

Just wanted to drop a quick update on what’s been happening in my world lately. It’s been a busy week, but in the best possible way.

Wrapping Up the Teaching Year

The academic year is finally winding down, and I have to say it’s been an absolute blast teaching Ableton Live and diving into prototyping with ChucK and Max for plug-in development. Watching students go from “what is a this?” to creating their own devices and instruments is always incredibly rewarding. There’s something magical about that moment when concepts click and creativity starts flowing!

Now comes the part that many teachers dread but I secretly enjoy – marking everyone’s final projects. I’m genuinely excited to see what creative directions everyone took with their assignments. Grading might be time-consuming, but discovering those hidden gems and innovative approaches makes it worth every minute.

Summer Vibes Coming Early

Speaking of things to be happy about – this heat wave! After typical dreary weather, the sun has finally decided to make an appearance, and it’s glorious. Soon we can complain about the lack of rain!

Community Connections

The DBS Bible studies have kicked back into gear after our Easter break, and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it’s going. We’ve had good attendance, which is always encouraging, but what’s really stood out are the conversations. There’s been some genuinely thought-provoking discussions, with people bringing fresh perspectives and honest questions to the table. Creating spaces where people feel comfortable enough to dive into meaningful conversation is something I value enormously.

Bank Holiday Plans (or Lack Thereof)

And to top it all off, we’ve got a bank holiday coming up! Is there anything sweeter than a Monday off work? I’m planning to embrace the art of doing absolutely nothing productive before marking madness begins!
