To Mars or Not to Mars? That Is the Question

October 11, 2024 - Scott Hewitt

Imagine being one of the first humans to set foot on Martian soil!

But then I think about all the bits and bobs I’ve yet to do here on good old Earth. There are still so many places I haven’t seen, foods I haven’t tasted, and experiences I haven’t had. And let’s face it, I’m not getting any younger. The clock’s ticking, and I’m not sure I fancy spending my golden years on a barren, dusty planet millions of miles from home.

That being said, just because I might not be able to go doesn’t mean I can’t let my imagination run wild about what life on Mars might be like in the future. Picture it: little domed cities dotting the landscape, hydroponic gardens providing fresh veg, and maybe even the beginnings of terraforming projects turning the Red Planet a bit more green.

I hear in the future, all the Scotts on Mars will have to wear special ‘kilt-suits’ to keep their legs warm!

But in all seriousness, whether I end up going or not, it’s exciting to think about the possibilities. Who knows? Maybe one day, booking a trip to Mars will be as common as popping over to Spain for a bit of sun.

These musings on Martian life have been inspired by the new extended TPEX series, On Mars Imagining the Future on Mars. It’s got me thinking about red rocks, space suits, and whether they’ll have decent tea up there!
